Grandma's Gossip - Weekend Recap by Lynda Petersen
21 May 2018 by Terresa Petersen
GRANNY’S GOSSIP; Well it was nice to survive the winter chill that came in but the hockey was something else. A GRADE. After the excellent performance last week, I was expecting to see some dramatic improvements, however we seemed to have fallen back into the same old stuff. Leading the game early on, we tried to match the opposition by playing their fast game. This does not work for your team hold possession use the short pass. And try to go back to the team positions used against wests, these worked very well even though we were defeated. Norths forced themselves back into the game and leveled up to a 1/1 draw. This should have been a game for the taking but we let it slip.I don’t like naming players as others seem to get a tad upset but I feel that Macey deserved a mention having played Reserve grade and coming back to sub she was outstanding. A RESERVE; God dam ladies pumped you all up last week and sadly you all left your A game at home, how can you have the ball in the circle and flog it straight at the keeper not once but 5 times in the same play, poor choices costing you at critical times. A 2 nil loss. R 2 LADIES; Don’t know if it was the cold or what but your whole team play usually apparent was totally missing in this game, I like to watch you play as you have the commonsense missing in other higher graded teams however this weekend it seemed to have flown the coup. a 4/0 win which should have been much greater. A2 LADIES. I see that you had a 2/1 win so sorry to not have been there but am getting too old to come out at 8.30 on a Sunday night. What an awful time slot, especially in winter. Glad to see you are still improving and playing well. E GRADE GIRLS. What a fine performance by these upcoming youngsters, we have a couple of speedy little ones and they are just ferocious when it comes to chasing down the ball, still a little more teamwork needed but its hard to think when you have all the possession and each one wants to score. A very healthy 18/0 win. The opposition goalie made some wonderful saves and will shine as a keeper if she gets some help from the field . D GRADE; First game on the turf for these girls and I was actually looking forward to watching as grass hockey is so sad and not conducive to good skills, was a little let down in the first half as adjusting to the quicker pace took longer than expected, however they got on with the job and started to click and the final result of a 5/0 win was a decent result. REMEMBER PEOPLE COME TO WATCH YOU PLAY THEY DO NOT CARE IF YOU WIN OR LOSE ALL THEY EXPECT IS THAT YOU GIVE 100% AND ENJOY YOUR GAME. HAPPY HOCKEY ALL
