Grandma's Gossip - Weekend Recap by Lynda Petersen

GRANNY’S GOSSIP; Friday night 8.30 pm what a bummer freezing as per the whole weekend. Both A Grade and A2 on at the same time. Thank god the A2’s were having a great game. Never seen them play so well, the passing and determination to get that ball back was nice to see. We have a couple of 1 handed bandits in this team but they know what they are doing and keep that stick in and can dribble with the best of them. A nice 3/1 win against Collegians. Some pretty good goals as well, still a few went missing, more possession in the attacking 25 will get better results.,A good game ladies.A GRADE; after last week expected some fire in the belly, maybe the cold slowed you down, but that excuse is not really good at all. No hunger , no pace. Taking too long to move the ball on free hits, and not a great deal of good passing. What happened to the Tap and Go, or shortening the pass to your own team and working forward bit by bit. This grade is what all players want to achieve and you must fight to stay there. Up and comers are pushing for spots and its bad to say that the girls that a filling in for you are having crackers of games. Both Ash and Cara seemed to be doing a lot of the work and others plodding along. Why when we get into attack do we want to throw the ball away, too many long passes and not enough thought. Possession is the key to better results. And then you can come off and say you were happy with your game. Playing Norths a result of 2/1 down is not good at all. A RESERVE. Geez Louise you ladies are all over the shop. Play your bums off 1 week and next you cant find it. Had most of the play and could for the love of mike not find the net. Poor option choices in the attack left a lot of balls go over the back line or gave wests a free out. For heavens sake if you are running it across the back line throw back to the dot or square it up, never mind shooting from that angle, its only going to hit the side board or go out completely. Not enough corners forced holding onto the ball too long. A game you should have won hands down but to then turn it into a loss was bad. A 2/1 loss to Wests. R 2 GRADE; Not going to say how good you are as it was very painful to watch. Usually say I like watching you play as you all use your heads, but hells bells, how can the whole 12 of you go on holidays at the same time. The first time in several weeks the whole team was capable of playing and you muffed it. I know that some are returning from a 4 or 5 game break but that should have meant that you were rearing to go however, not to be. As you all have played for a few years your own heads will be spinning knowing what you did right and what you did wrong. Let this be you wake up call and get into the next game firing on all cylinders. You all should thank Hannah for keeping you in the game several great saves under the pump made it not turn into a debacle, a pleasant 1/1 draw against Thistles. D GRADE. On the main field this weekend expected these juniors to have a good one, and they did. A huge 8/0 win , however when you are taking such control of a game it does not mean that you have to become a hog. Started off well with getting and giving the ball then, sleepy time, you must pass, by this I dont mean just throw it away, look up take the best choice. Give to your team mates then run out of trouble to get the ball back, pretty sure she will return the favor. Thats the only thing really needing improving as you are all playing so well. E GRADE. Having been in the winners circle, and by big margins. have made them a little comfortable, Playing Easts we scored early and took a 2/0 lead. but Easts to their credit never gave up and were not outclassed at all. We did not have enough width, and by that I mean keep the wings out on the side line and try and get the ball out there. You played a lot up the center and then had to scramble back . The stronger ones in the team have to trust the others and give them the ball. Final Score 2/0 Win. Chloe Charlotte and Paige improving every week. Apologies to Chloe as I gave charlotte her goals . make allowances for me have viewed a lot of hockey. Finally a thanks to the juniors who are helping out the seniors, they are not looking out of place at all, and it some instances are standing out. Also the the Reserve Ladies filling in the A grade doing a marvelous job. HAPPY HOCKEY ALL MAY THE WEATHER GODS LOOK KINDLY ON US NEXT WEEKEND.
